St Patrick’s Day (Lá Fhéile Pádraig) is Ireland’s national holiday but it’s also celebrated in other countries. There are parades and festivals to celebrate Irish culture on this day. It is named for Saint Patrick (c. 387–461 AD), the most commonly recognised of the patron saints of Ireland. It originated as a Catholic holiday and became an official feast day in the early 17th century.
